LeadingCourses.com votes three Dutch clients as best in categories

Every year LeadingCourses.com makes a ranking for the best golf courses, best 18 hole courses, best 9 hole courses and best par 3 courses in the Netherlands. In their 2020 ranking Infinite Variety Golf Design won the top prizes in all these categories.

Our client Royal Hague won the top spot in both best golf course and best 18 hole hole golf course in the Netherlands. Similar to other Dutch rankings Royal Hague has occupied this leading position for several years now, showing that the large-scale restoration of the course over the last decennium is paying off. Specifically, we restored all the greens, green surrounds and bunkers and furthermore renovated all the tees, paths and mowing lines. Last but not least in the last few years a concerted effort has started to manage the vegetation around the course in line with the dunes landscape surrounding the course.

The top spot among 9 hole courses was won by newcomer The Links Valley, a course that was only opened last year. This 9 holes course which was designed and built by us, lies in a former sandpit in the middle of the Veluwe, the largest heathland area of the Netherlands. The course traverses more than 20 meters in altitude difference, which is rare for this flat country. Also unique is the fact that The Links Valley is the first reversible course in the Netherlands, where players play the course every day in a different direction. We are very proud of this great result, only one year after the opening of the course.

“We are very happy to have clinched LeadingCourses.com top spot for 9 hole courses in the Netherlands in the first year we participate in this ranking. It clearly shows that we have an offering that the Dutch golfers love to come and play. The Links Valley is the product of a lot of hard work by the whole team, both hospitality and greenkeeping, based on a unique creative idea and great design by our golf architect Frank Pont”

The Links Valley The best par 3 course again went to the short course at De Oosterhoutse, which has also won the prize last year. This project originated when 4 holes close to the clubhouse became available due to an expansion of the 18 holes golf course onto adjacent land. Because the land available for the par 3 course was so large, we were able to build the longest par 3 course of the Netherlands with a large variety of short holes, varying form 100 to 175 meters. Not only that, but we built the greens to the same size, quality and specifications as the greens on the main course. Winning the top spot for the second year in a row shows that investing in quality for a short course really pays off.

“We are very proud to have won all the top spots in the recent LeadingCourses.com 2020 rankings for the best 18 hole course, 9 hole course and par 3 course in the Netherlands. People already knew that we are Europe's leading restorer of classic courses, and that our work at Royal Hague is some of the best we have done. However the fact that the other two courses, The Links Valley and Oosterhoutse short course, are both courses that we designed and built from scratch clearly shows that we are able to bring something truely compelling and unique to the Dutch market.”
