JOHN MORRISON
The fact that John Morrison is one of the lesser known architects of Colt & Co does not make him a less interesting architect. He was literally a larger than life person, who not only was a great sportsman excelling in football, cricket and golf, but also was a bomber pilot in WWI and one of the first to land a plance on an aircraft carrier.
Morrison did most of the travelling in Europe for Colt, working with Colt on such great courses as Kennemer, Falkenstein, Eindhoven, Frankfurt and Stockholm. Most of his solo work was in Germany, where sadly very little is left of it. In Holland he did most of the design work on Toxandria. The key element of his design style that jumps out is his raised plateau greens, especially on some of his par 3 holes. His German work also included large ragged edge bunkers which were different in style to the Colt courses in the UK.
