JEFF MINGAY
Jeff Mingay established Mingay Golf Course Design in 2009, after nearly a decade working with fellow Canadian golf architect, Rod Whitman. As Senior Associate with Rod Whitman Golf Course Design, Mingay was involved with creating some of the most acclaimed golf courses in Canada in recent years, including Blackhawk Golf Club (Edmonton, Alberta), Sagebrush Golf and Sporting Club (Quilchena, British Columbia), and Cabot Links (Inverness, Nova Scotia).
“Jeff has a true passion for golf course design and construction,” says Blackhawk Golf Club’s founder and managing partner, Al Prokop. “He works hands on in all areas of construction. In my opinion, it’s this hands on approach that truly separates the great designers in the business from the others.”
Mingay insists that great golf courses cannot be created in two-dimensions on paper. In turn, he spends an extraordinary amount of time in the field participating with feature shaping, finish work and construction supervision during the realization of his golf course designs.
Mingay’s motivation is to work with clients and partners like Frank Pont, who share a deep passion for golf and course architecture, to create courses of true distinction.
Along with restorative-based consulting work at many historic clubs throughout Canada and the United States, - including the venerable Victoria Golf Club in British Columbia - Mingay is currently designing a new 18-hole course for the Derrick Club in Edmonton, Alberta and overseeing comprehensive renovation of 27 holes at Toronto’s York Downs Golf and Country Club.
Acclaimed golf writer Lorne Rubenstein - a member of Canada’s Golf Hall of Fame - calls Mingay “one of the sharpest young men working in the field of golf course design today."
