Rough shaped bunkers at Swinkelsche

Originally from the small town Monifeith on the East Coast of Scotland, I grew up playing classic courses such as Carnoustie, St. Andrews and Montrose to name a few. From an early age I was interested in golf design and construction, interning on some of the local courses in preparation for the ’99 Open championship. Encouraged by my experience I enrolled at Elmwood College to study a HND in Golf Course management during which time I interned in the US on a new course build.

Upon finishing college I started with a construction company, learning the trade from finishing to operating heavy plant. Over the years I travelled with different firms around Europe developing my shaping and design experience and have had the opportunity to work with different architects on different landscapes.

In 2004 opportunity came knocking with a phone call from David McLay Kidd to be part of the design team for the Castle Course project in St. Andrews. Since 2004 I have been very fortunate to have worked on several projects with DMK Golf Design, developing my knowledge of strategy, golf course design and project management. Since 2009 I have been operating my own design shaping company, during which time I have been able to work with many talented architects on some unique sites such as with Frank Pont on De Swinkelsche.

I am currently involved and associated with a number of projects around the globe and I look forward to the future and what that may hold!
