Hulst on Sea
A new Dutch links course with 8 seaview holes
In the Netherlands the chance does not often present itself to build a golf course right on the sea, with the possibility to create 8 holes with direct sea views. Hulst on Sea is a project where both of these will be possible.
The site on which the golf course will be built lies in the most southern part of the Dutch province Zealand, close to the Belgian city of Antwerp. It lies next to a former ferry harbor, which isn't being used anymore, but is in the process of being redeveloped to a seaside harbor village. The whole site currently is enclosed on four sides by dykes, but the plan is to create large dunes along the whole sea perimeter of the site and to weave 8 golf holes through these dunes.
The amount of soil that will need to be brought in and shaped to create these dunes on the site will make this by far the largest civil engineering project ever done on a Dutch golf course, and most likely evenin Europe. That also means that the initial stages of the project will take quite some time, and that it will be some years before golf will be played along the sea here.
The golf course is routed in two loops of 9, that can be constructed as two seperate loops or two intertwining loops. There is also an option to play just 9 holes in the dunes, all with direct sea view. The plan furthermore includes a limited amount of classic Belgian coastal style development around the golf course.
