The next Dutch classic course?
The Ullerberg, which has been in the possession of the Waller family for the last 100 years, is a 600 acre large estate in the middle of Holland's largest heathland area De Veluwe. On the estate lies one of Holland's oldest golf courses, a nine hole hickory course with heather fairways. Also on the estate lies a former sand pit which now will be developed into a seperate nine hole golf course.
The sand pit has some significant altitude changes, which will allow for some spectacular golf to be played. The plan is to transform the former sand pit into a natural heathland landscape with blow out sandy waste areas on which a minimalistic golf course will be draped.
The plan is for the 9 hole course to be playable in two directions - a reversible course - an idea originally floated by Tom Simpson in the last century. This will in effect create two very different 9 hole courses to be played on, namely the Blue and Red courses. The other distinguishing element of the Ullerberg course will be that the course will be designed primarily for match play, allowing for holes that will entice and reward more risk taking by the players.
We expect to work with some of the world's top shapers on this exciting project, and therefore are confident that this nine holes course can become Hollands next classic course.
