Bunker restoration project holes 11, 13, 14, 17 and 18.

Copt Heath is an early Colt design from just before the first World War. It lies on relatively flat terrain, but there is enough height difference on holes, there are enough bunkers and the green surfaces are tricky enough to make things challenging and interesting.

As stated the bunkering is an important part of the game at Copt Heath. Over time the bunker quality had deteriorated to such a point that the sand had become quite contaminated with a lot of stones coming up through the sand. This was unacceptable for the members, and therefore a bunker restoration program has been started.

The club went out and interviewed several golf architects, and in the end IVGD was selected to help them with the bunker restoration process. In the initial phase we focused on getting the build method of the bunkers right, where in close coordination with the course manager and the club we chose a hybrid system of bunker liner for the faces and granite grit for the bottoms. In total 28 bunkers spread over 5 holes were tackled in this way during the first phase in Q4 2013.

The work was carried out by the contractor Abbotts, assisted by the greenkeeping team. IVGD were closely involved in monitoring the construction work.
